Last Monday evening, Lucia had an accident on our big family bike. Her foot got caught in the back wheel. After a very scary and very long trip to the ER (7 hours!), she's home recovering. Today she is in much better spirits and even getting around a little on her crutches for the first time. She just got a package full of drawings and notes from her classmates at school and she was thrilled about that. We've been watching The Aristocats every day and she likes sitting on the couch with a tray on her lap. She eats her meals there and draws all day long and even painted with a watercolor set she got as a get-well gift from Alma-Lu's (and her old) preschool.
It was an awful thing to have happen, but we were lucky that (we think) no permanent damage was done. She's been through a lot of pain and has been so strong and brave that it makes me cry just to think about it. She is so amazing. Now comes the work of healing both physically and emotionally. The whole family needs emotional healing, really. This morning Alma-Lu said she didn't want to go to school; "I want to stay home and take care of my sister."
Please send love and light to our sweet Lucia. May she heal quickly and get back her strength and fearlessness.
p.s. The beautiful flowers were a special delivery from her Nonna. So sweet.
wow, i didn't realize how serious this was at first. the more time goes on, the more i'm seeing it was more than i thought. extra big huge hugs for you all. i just closed my eyes and prayed for you all. i see you smiling and playful and all healed up in every way. mwah!
